[como] blurring the boundaries; Between Organic Beauty and Emotions

Art Center Nabi's COMO presents the German visual artist Robert Siedel's solo exhibition. Seidel blurs the traditional lines between organic and ebullient work teems with an almost living energy as he studied the shapes and patterns created by an environment and then overlays that with his own graphic style.

In his films Seidel is interested in pushing the boundaries of organic beauty and emotions with visual and scientific technology. Audiences will meet the blur of boundaries in emotion and technology at COMO which is a public and non-public space at the same time.

Art Center Nabi, the specialized institution for Media Arts, and SK Telecom will hold a showcase at ‘COMO’, a extended media platform from Dec 1, 2008 to Jan 15, 2009.

Streets crowded with Christmas trees and decorations make people go fluttering at the end of the year. However, current economic crisis hardly let people feel the excitement. Therefore, the virtual tree is projected to share the burden in reality. The cost of material Christmas trees will be donated to neighbors in need. Three media artists will present warm Christmas images on the screens instead of a real Christmas tree.

▲ by Kye Ryoon Han is a 3D image showing bright and cheerful mood of Christmas. ▲ by Joo Myung Song is a tranquil feast of simple Christmas flowering tree, and his another artwork expresses twinkling and touches of dolls, toys, stars by images. ▲ by Jihoon Byun uses algebraic functions to form different types of Christmas trees by every fifteen seconds.

This project held at COMO is a small sharing not only for citizens but also for neighbors in need.

[como_august] Haeundae

Art Center Nabi COMO presents JiHoon Byun's "Haeundae" from August 8 to September 14.

Haeundae beach is one of the most famous beach across Korea. It is locaed on the eastern part of Busan city, the southernmost end of the Korean peninsula. The name of "Haeundae" derived from "Haeun", the name of the great Scholar Choi Chi-won under the pen name of Ko Un during the late period of the Silla Kingdom. Allegedly, Scholar Choi Chi-won carved a 3-letter "Haeundae" on the southern rockwall of Dongbaek Island, being fascinated with the exquisite wonders of the Haeundae Dalmaji area, on his way to Mt. Gaya deserting his government post.

JiHoon Byun(www.phantasian.com) has featured works to connect two different spaces by network.

by Byun delivers the realtime sound and image of the popular beach to COMO at Seoul. This work invites citizens to enjoy the sea, sky and sound of Haeyndae beach in city.

Takagi Masakatsu is a visual artist and musician whose work knows no aesthetic borders.

He has presented video installations and performed live at art spaces around the world. He also produces music videos, as well as music for commercials and film.

Res magazine named him one of the 2006 RES 10, an annual selection of emerging artists who will influence the worlds of film, video, design, advertising, music, and media art in the upcoming year and beyond.

Media Art; the past joins the present

It was the first exhibition of year 2008 to feature at COMO.

"Good Morning Mr. Orwell" by pioneer video artist Nam-Joon Paik invited audiences to large public screens on seven continents that included the COMO at SKT Tower in Seoul. It launched at the same time with other venues on seven continents(New York standard) with the "Finding pink time 2007 (the media clock) at 9pm on January 29, 2008.


"Finding pink time 2007" is made by kid artists from Project I 3.0 which is art participating philanthropy annual program organized by Art Center Nabi.

Emotional Cities; How are you today?

Swedish artist Erik Krikortz's project 'Emotional Cities' is now featuring at COMO.
In this project, the feelings of a city's population are registered every day as a color-coded emotional index. Upon entering the site, people are asked the question "How do you feel today?", and able to indicate their emotions with just one click. This project was held in collaboration with Cyworld(http://www.cyworld.com), the most popular on-line social networking system in South Korea.

COMO was specially chosen due to its easy access to the public. As a part of SKT building at Ulgiro, COMO is consisted of three large LED screens.
